Student Rights in the Context of Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka

Starting the new academic year 2020/2021, the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, especially the Islamic Religious EducationStudy Program, started odd semester lectures by holding a virtual General Studium by inviting Dr. Nida Ul Hasanat, M.Si as a resource person on Wednesday, October 14, 2020.

The discussion brought by Dr. Nida Ul Hasanat, M.Si at this general stadium event raised the theme "Student Rights in the Context of Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka". This is certainly in line with his profession, which currently serves as Deputy Dean I of the Faculty of Psychology UGM.

The agenda for the "Kampus Merdeka" has actually been echoed by our Minister of Education, Nadiem Makarim for a long time. However, several campuses, including UIN Sunan Kalijaga will only implement the Kampus Merdeka curriculum system in 2020, considering that there are many things that must be prepared to support the sustainability of this new curriculum.

Dr. Nida Ul Hasananat, M.Si said that the core of this "Kampus Merdea" is the granting of freedom and autonomy to educational institutions, the independence of complicated bureaucratization and most important thing is the freedom for students to choose their fields of interest. In fact, the main goal of independent learning at the Kampus Merdeka is to encourage the learning process in higher education to be more autonomous and flexible and to create a learning culture that is innovative, unfettered, and in accordance with the needs of students.

Permendikbud No. 3 of 2020 concerning National Higher Education Standards (SNPT) states that universities are obliged to give students the right to voluntarily, which means students have the freedom to take or not take this right. Furthermore, students are entitled to take 2 semesters of credit outside the university (40 credits) or take credits in different study programs at the same university for 1 semester (20 credits). The forms of learning activities that can be carried out by students outside the campus include: humanitarian projects, teaching in schools, internships/industrial practices, projects in villages, student exchanges, research/research, entrepreneurship, and independent studies/projects.

In welcoming the sustainability of this new curriculum, several preparations were made by related parties, namely Universities, Faculties, and Study Programs. From the presentation of Dr. Nida Ul Hasanat, M.Si, we can clearly know and understand the ins and outs of preparation, implementation, and challenges that will be faced in the implementation of "Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka".
